I just bought a new camera over the weekend.  I wanted a compact since there are many places that allow cameras, but will not allow SLRs.  I ended up getting the Canon A540 plus conversion lenses and a filter adapter.  It's got some strong points over my D30, such as infrared and macro capabilities, but even with 6MP, it still doesn't match the 3MP D30 in quality.  Basicly, its a backup camera, and I'll use it along with my dSLR for some of those hard to get angles that are just to difficult with a large camera.
